Excess water management
What Is a French Drain?
A French drain is a typically is a gravel-filled trench lined with landscape fabric which is used to keep soil and dirt out of the gravel. Other types of drains include a perforated drainpipe and can be covered with grass. The goal of the French drain is to flow excess surface water into the trench and allow it to flow freely to an exit point or a suitable drainage area. The trench is measure and slightly sloped so gravity can carry the access water to the desired location.
We start by assessing the areas prone to flooding and determine the best location and route for the drain including where the water should flow and determine the exit or drainage end of the trench. We will determine if an exposed gravel channel is best or if it should be covered in grass.
Most if not all yard drainage projects are restricted by local, zoning and community codes and rules. We work directly with the city or village and provide them with the appropriate and necessary documentation to receive the necessary permits and approvals. We also contact JULIE or DIG to check for any underground utility lines.
